Nordic Fish Pie is a traditional Norwegian dish that combines flaky fish, creamy sauce, and mashed potatoes for a comforting and hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb white fish fillets, such as cod or haddock
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup frozen peas
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the fish fillets in a single layer in a baking dish.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to form a roux.
- Slowly whisk in the milk until the sauce is smooth and thickened.
- Add the frozen peas to the sauce and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour the sauce over the fish in the baking dish.
- Cook the potatoes in boiling salted water until tender. Drain and mash with a little butter and milk.
- Spread the mashed potatoes over the fish and sauce.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
