Ingredients

  • 1 lb white fish fillets, such as cod or haddock
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the fish fillets in a single layer in a baking dish.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to form a roux.
  4. Slowly whisk in the milk until the sauce is smooth and thickened.
  5. Add the frozen peas to the sauce and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Pour the sauce over the fish in the baking dish.
  7. Cook the potatoes in boiling salted water until tender. Drain and mash with a little butter and milk.
  8. Spread the mashed potatoes over the fish and sauce.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
