Nordic Smoked Fish Chowder
Nordic Smoked Fish Chowder is a traditional Finnish dish that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for a cozy meal on a cold day.
Ingredients
- 1 lb smoked white fish, flaked
- 4 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 3 potatoes, diced
- 4 cups fish or vegetable broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh dill for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the bacon fat in the pot.
- Add the chopped onion, celery, and carrots to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to make a roux.
- Pour in the fish or vegetable broth and add the diced potatoes. Bring to a simmer and cook until the potatoes are tender.
- Add the flaked smoked fish and heavy cream. Simmer for a few minutes until the fish is heated through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the chowder hot, garnished with crispy bacon and fresh dill.
