Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios, or hazelnuts)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the sugar and honey. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 280°F on a candy thermometer.
  2. While the sugar mixture is cooking, beat the egg whites with salt until stiff peaks form.
  3. Once the sugar mixture reaches the right temperature, slowly pour it into the egg whites while beating continuously.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and continue to beat until the mixture becomes thick and glossy.
  5. Stir in the chopped nuts until evenly distributed.
  6. Transfer the nougat mixture to a parchment-lined pan and let it cool completely before cutting into pieces.
