Nyama Choma is a traditional Maasai dish that features tender, grilled meat in a fiery hot pepper stew. This dish is a celebration of Maasai culture and is perfect for those who love bold, spicy flavors.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef, cut into large chunks
- 4 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 onions, sliced
- 4-6 hot peppers, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Add the hot peppers and tomatoes. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Season the beef chunks with salt and add them to the pot. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour in enough water to cover the meat, then cover the pot and simmer for 40 minutes or until the meat is tender.
- Once the meat is tender, uncover the pot and let the stew simmer for an additional 10 minutes to thicken the sauce.
- Adjust seasoning if needed, then serve the Nyama Choma hot with your favorite side dishes.
