Okinawan Shrimp Dumplings
Okinawan Shrimp Dumplings are a delicious and traditional dish from Okinawan cuisine. These dumplings are filled with a savory shrimp mixture and wrapped in a delicate dough, creating a perfect balance of flavors and textures.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup water chestnuts, finely chopped
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp grated ginger
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 20 round dumpling wrappers
Instructions
- In a food processor, pulse the shrimp until finely chopped.
- Transfer the chopped shrimp to a bowl and add water chestnuts, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Place a small spoonful of the shrimp mixture in the center of each dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, then fold the wrapper in half and press to seal.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of oil. Place the dumplings in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Add 1/2 cup of water to the skillet, cover, and steam the dumplings for 5 minutes or until the shrimp is cooked through.
- Serve the Okinawan Shrimp Dumplings hot with soy sauce for dipping.
