Ingredients
- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 10-12 red chilies, stemmed and chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon shrimp paste
- 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- In a mortar and pestle, grind the chilies, garlic, shrimp paste, tamarind paste, sugar, and salt into a smooth paste.
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the chili paste to the onions and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Remove from heat and let the sambal cool before serving.
