Onion Stalks in Poppy Seed Paste (Piajkoli Posto) is a traditional dish from Sylheti Cuisine that features tender onion stalks cooked in a creamy and nutty poppy seed paste. This dish is bursting with flavors and is a perfect accompaniment to steamed rice.
Ingredients
- 250g onion stalks, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 3 tbsp poppy seeds
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 cup water
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
Instructions
- In a blender, grind the poppy seeds into a fine paste.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the onion stalks. Sauté for 3-4 minutes.
- Add the ground poppy seed paste, green chilies, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Pour water into the pan and cover it. Let it cook for 15-20 minutes on low heat.
- Once the onion stalks are tender and the paste has thickened, remove from heat.
