Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) beef, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup (250g) roasted peanuts
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 shallots
  • 1 inch (2.5cm) ginger
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • 2 tbsp sweet soy sauce
  • 2 cups (500ml) water
  • Salt to taste
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water

Instructions

  1. Grind the roasted peanuts into a fine paste and set aside.
  2. In a food processor, blend the garlic, shallots, and ginger into a smooth paste.
  3. In a large pot, combine the beef, garlic-shallot-ginger paste, turmeric, coriander, cumin, chili powder, tamarind paste, sweet soy sauce, and water. Cook over medium heat until the beef is tender and the sauce thickens.
  4. Thread the cooked beef onto the soaked skewers and grill or pan-fry until golden brown and slightly charred.
  5. Serve the Padang Satay with the peanut sauce and enjoy!
