Palak Chana (chickpea And Spinach Stew)
Palak Chana, also known as Chickpea and Spinach Stew, is a traditional Pashtun dish that is both nutritious and flavorful. This hearty stew is packed with protein, fiber, and essential vitamins, making it a perfect choice for a healthy and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups chickpeas, cooked
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- 4 cups spinach, chopped
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for a minute.
- Next, add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and the oil separates.
- Stir in the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook for a couple of minutes.
- Add the cooked chickpeas and mix well with the masala.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook for 10 minutes.
- Add the chopped spinach and cook until wilted.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve hot.
