Pampushky Passion
Pampushky are traditional Ukrainian yeast doughnuts filled with fruit preserves or poppy seeds. They are often served as a sweet treat or dessert, and are popular during holidays and special occasions.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup fruit preserves or poppy seeds for filling
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, warm milk, sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface. Cut the dough into circles and place a small spoonful of fruit preserves or poppy seeds in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Fry the pampushky in batches until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
- Dust the pampushky with powdered sugar before serving.
