Panamanian Corn Drink (chicheme)
Chicheme is a traditional Panamanian corn drink that is sweet, creamy, and refreshing. It is a popular beverage during festivals and gatherings in Panama.
Ingredients
- 6 cups of fresh corn kernels
- 4 cups of water
- 1 cup of evaporated milk
- 1 cup of condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup of sugar (adjust to taste)
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the fresh corn kernels and water. Blend until smooth.
- Strain the corn mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pot, pressing on the solids to extract all the liquid.
- Place the pot over medium heat and add the evaporated milk, condensed milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sugar. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally, and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let the chicheme cool to room temperature.
- Refrigerate the chicheme for at least 2 hours before serving.
