Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 cup warm water
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and baking powder together.
- Cut in the vegetable shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the warm water and mix until a dough forms.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into 3-inch circles.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the hojaldres in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
