Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and baking powder together.
  2. Cut in the vegetable shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the warm water and mix until a dough forms.
  4. On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  5. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into 3-inch circles.
  6. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Fry the hojaldres in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!
