Paneer Butter Masala
Paneer Butter Masala is a popular North Indian dish made with paneer (Indian cottage cheese) cooked in a rich and creamy tomato-based gravy. It is a delicious and indulgent dish that is perfect for special occasions or when you want to treat yourself to a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 250g paneer, cubed
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 2 cups tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup cashew nuts, soaked and ground to a paste
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp honey or sugar (optional)
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan and sauté the paneer cubes until they turn golden brown. Remove the paneer from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the remaining butter and sauté the chopped onions until they turn translucent.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
- Pour in the tomato puree and cook until the raw smell disappears.
- Add the cashew nut paste, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and let the gravy simmer for a few minutes.
- Add the sautéed paneer cubes and mix gently. If using honey or sugar, add it at this stage.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
