Paneer Makhani, also known as Paneer Tikka Masala, is a popular dish in Anglo-Indian cuisine. This creamy and flavorful dish is made with paneer (Indian cottage cheese) cooked in a rich and aromatic tomato-based gravy.

Paneer Makhani (paneer Tikka Masala)

Ingredients

  • 250g paneer, cubed
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup cashew nuts, soaked and ground into a paste
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, marinate the paneer cubes with yogurt, red chili powder, and salt. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat butter in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  4. Pour in the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
  5. Add the cashew nut paste, garam masala, turmeric powder, and kasuri methi. Cook for a few minutes.
  6. Add the marinated paneer cubes and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  7. Pour in the heavy cream and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
