Paniyar Tenga (assamese Style Paneer Stew)

Ingredients

  • 250g paneer, cubed
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the chopped onions. Sauté until they turn golden brown.
  2. Add the grated ginger and green chilies. Sauté for a minute.
  3. Now, add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
  4. Add the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.
  5. Add the cubed paneer and stir gently to coat the paneer with the spices.
  6. Pour in the water and season with salt. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
