Ingredients

  • 2 cups maize meal
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 can baked beans in tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a large pot.
  2. Gradually add the maize meal to the boiling water, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  3. Cover the pot and let the pap simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. While the pap is cooking, heat some oil in a pan and sauté the onion and green pepper until soft.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes, baked beans, curry powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to the pan. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Once the pap is ready, serve it with the chakalaka dip on the side for dipping or spreading.
