Ingredients

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup lentil dumplings (mangodi)
  • 2-3 papads
  • 1 tablespoon gram flour (besan)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk the yogurt and gram flour together to make a smooth mixture.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, and asafoetida. Let them splutter.
  3. Add the yogurt mixture to the pan and stir continuously on low heat.
  4. Add turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  5. Add water and lentil dumplings. Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Break the papads into small pieces and add them to the curry. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
