Papaya Sweet, also known as Dulce de Lechosa, is a traditional Venezuelan dessert made from ripe papayas cooked in a sweet syrup. This delightful treat is often enjoyed during special occasions and celebrations.
Ingredients
- 1 large ripe papaya, peeled, seeded, and cut into thin strips
- 4 cups water
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the water, sugar, and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the papaya strips to the pot and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 45-60 minutes, or until the papaya is translucent and the syrup has thickened.
- Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and lemon juice. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
- Transfer the papaya sweet to a serving dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
