This Parboiled Rice Chicken Curry, also known as Chilka Chicken Curry, is a traditional dish from the Jharkhandi Cuisine. It is a flavorful and aromatic chicken curry that is best enjoyed with steamed rice or roti.

Parboiled Rice Chicken Curry (chilka Chicken Curry)

Ingredients

  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup parboiled rice
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the parboiled rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Now, add the chicken pieces and cook until they are slightly browned.
  5. Next, add the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 10 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, drain the soaked rice and add it to the chicken curry. Add 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
  7. Cover and cook on low heat until the rice and chicken are fully cooked, about 20-25 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  9. Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
