Pascuense Pupusas
Pascuense Pupusas are a traditional dish from Easter Island, made with a delicious corn dough and filled with savory ingredients. These pupusas are a perfect representation of the unique and flavorful cuisine of the island.
Ingredients
- 2 cups masa harina (corn flour)
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 cup refried beans
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup diced cooked ham
- 1/2 cup diced pineapple
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the masa harina and warm water to form a smooth dough. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll each into a ball.
- Flatten each ball into a disc and place a spoonful of refried beans, cheese, ham, pineapple, and cilantro in the center. Fold the dough over the filling and seal the edges to form a stuffed disc.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and cook the pupusas for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve the pupusas hot with a side of curtido (pickled cabbage) and tomato salsa.
