Pashtun Chicken Curry
This Pashtun Chicken Curry is a traditional dish from Pashtun Cuisine, known for its rich and aromatic flavors. The combination of tender chicken, fragrant spices, and creamy sauce makes it a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
- Add chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Stir in the pureed tomatoes, yogurt, and all the spices. Mix well.
- Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
