Pashtun Chicken Karahi
Pashtun Chicken Karahi is a traditional dish from Pashtun Cuisine, known for its rich and aromatic flavors. This recipe combines tender chicken pieces with a blend of fragrant spices, creating a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3-4 green chilies, sliced
- 1/4 cup oil
- 1 tbsp ginger paste
- 1 tbsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a karahi or deep skillet over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Stir in the onions and cook until they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger paste, garlic paste, and green chilies. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is tender.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
