Pashtun Chicken Korma

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 onions, finely sliced
  • 1/2 cup ghee or oil
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup ground almonds
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg, grated
  • 1/4 tsp mace, ground
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat ghee/oil in a large pot and fry the onions until golden brown.
  2. Add the chicken pieces, ginger paste, and garlic paste. Cook until the chicken changes color.
  3. Stir in the yogurt, ground almonds, coconut milk, and all the spices. Mix well.
  4. Cover and cook on low heat for 30-35 minutes, or until the chicken is tender.
  5. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
