Pastel De Peixe Eurasiano (eurasian Fish Pie)

Ingredients

  • 500g white fish fillets, such as cod or haddock
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup carrots, diced
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Cut the fish fillets into bite-sized pieces and season with salt and pepper.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the onion and garlic, and stir to form a roux.
  5. Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly to create a creamy sauce.
  6. Add the diced carrots and frozen peas to the skillet, and cook for a few minutes until slightly softened.
  7. Gently fold in the seasoned fish pieces, making sure they are coated with the creamy sauce.
  8. Transfer the fish filling to a baking dish.
  9. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and place one on top of the fish filling, trimming any excess pastry.
  10. Brush the top of the pastry with a beaten egg for a golden finish.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden.
  12. Serve the Pastel de Peixe Eurasiano hot and enjoy!
