Pastel Tempeh (tempeh Curry Puffs)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups diced tempeh
  • 2 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 12 ready-made pastry sheets
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  2. Add the diced tempeh to the pan and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Next, add the curry powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and let the tempeh mixture cool down.
  5. Once the tempeh mixture has cooled, combine it with the mashed potatoes in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
  6. Take a pastry sheet and place a spoonful of the tempeh-potato mixture in the center. Fold the pastry over to form a triangle and press the edges to seal.
  7. Heat oil in a deep pan for frying. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the pastries in the oil and fry until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the pastries from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
  9. Serve the pastel tempeh hot with your favorite dipping sauce or chutney.
