Pastelón Passion (Pasión de Pastelón)
Pasión de Pastelón (Pastelón Passion) is a classic Puerto Rican dish that combines layers of sweet plantains, savory ground beef, and gooey cheese. This hearty casserole is a favorite for family gatherings and special occasions.
Ingredients
- 3 ripe plantains, peeled and sliced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and cook until softened.
- Add the ground beef, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned.
- Stir in the tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Layer half of the sliced plantains in a greased baking dish.
- Spread half of the beef mixture over the plantains, then sprinkle half of the mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining plantains, beef mixture, and cheese.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
