Ingredients

  • 1 kg ground lamb
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1.5 kg potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground lamb over medium heat. Add the onions, carrots, and garlic, and cook until the vegetables are tender.
  2. Stir in the frozen peas, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, then transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  4. Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender. Drain and mash with the milk and butter until smooth.
  5. Spoon the mashed potatoes over the lamb mixture in the baking dish, spreading them out evenly with a fork.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Serve the Pastiera Sammarinese hot and enjoy!
