Patin Asam Manis is a traditional dish from Palembang, Indonesia, known for its sweet and sour flavors. This dish is made with carp fish cooked in a tangy and savory sauce, perfect for serving with steamed rice.
Ingredients
- 500g carp fish, cleaned and cut into pieces
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tomatoes, cut into wedges
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 3 tbsp tamarind paste
- 4 tbsp sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup water
- Salt to taste
- Oil for cooking
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the carp fish until golden brown. Set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté the onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Add the tomatoes, bell peppers, tamarind paste, sweet soy sauce, sugar, and water. Stir well.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer and add the fried carp fish. Cook for 10-15 minutes until the fish is fully cooked and the sauce has thickened.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Serve the Patin Asam Manis hot with steamed rice.
