Paxlava (sweet Walnut And Honey Pastry)
Paxlava is a traditional Azerbaijani pastry that is typically made during special occasions and holidays. This sweet walnut and honey pastry is known for its delicate layers and rich flavors, making it a beloved treat in Azerbaijani cuisine.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and melted butter to form a dough.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions and roll each portion into a thin sheet.
- In a separate bowl, mix the walnuts, sugar, and cardamom.
- Place one sheet of dough onto a greased baking sheet.
- Spread the walnut mixture evenly over the dough.
- Place the second sheet of dough on top of the walnut mixture.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into diamond-shaped pieces.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the pastry is baking, combine the honey and water in a small saucepan and heat until the mixture becomes a thin syrup.
- Once the pastry is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the honey syrup over the hot pastry.
- Allow the paxlava to cool before serving.
