Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and melted butter to form a dough.
  3. Divide the dough into two equal portions and roll each portion into a thin sheet.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the walnuts, sugar, and cardamom.
  5. Place one sheet of dough onto a greased baking sheet.
  6. Spread the walnut mixture evenly over the dough.
  7. Place the second sheet of dough on top of the walnut mixture.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into diamond-shaped pieces.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. While the pastry is baking, combine the honey and water in a small saucepan and heat until the mixture becomes a thin syrup.
  11. Once the pastry is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the honey syrup over the hot pastry.
  12. Allow the paxlava to cool before serving.
