Pearl Spot Fish in Banana Leaf, also known as Karimeen Pollichathu, is a traditional Kerala dish that is bursting with flavors. The fish is marinated in a spicy masala, wrapped in banana leaf, and then pan-fried to perfection, resulting in a tender and aromatic delicacy.
Ingredients
- 4 pearl spot fish fillets
- 2 tbsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 4 banana leaves, cut into 8x8 inch squares
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
Instructions
- Clean the fish fillets and make 2-3 slits on each fillet.
- In a bowl, mix red chili powder, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, onions, and salt to make a thick masala paste.
- Marinate the fish fillets with the masala paste and let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Place each marinated fish fillet on a banana leaf square, spoon some coconut milk over it, and wrap it securely.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and place the wrapped fish fillets in it.
- Cover the pan and cook the fish on low heat for 10-12 minutes on each side until the banana leaf turns slightly brown.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice.
