Peas And Cottage Cheese Curry (matar Paneer)
This Peas and Cottage Cheese Curry, also known as Matar Paneer, is a classic dish from Punjabi cuisine. It's a flavorful and comforting curry made with peas, cottage cheese, and a rich tomato-based gravy.
Ingredients
- 1 cup peas
- 1 cup cottage cheese (paneer), cubed
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 1 green chili, chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat ghee or oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chili. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Stir in the turmeric, coriander, garam masala, and red chili powder. Cook for a couple of minutes.
- Add the peas and cottage cheese, and mix well with the masala.
- Pour in the heavy cream and season with salt. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the curry thickens.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
