Matar Kachori, also known as Peas Stuffed Pastry, is a popular Punjabi snack that is crispy on the outside and filled with a flavorful spiced pea filling on the inside. This delicious dish is perfect for serving as an appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)
- 1 cup green peas, boiled and mashed
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon green chili, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and ghee. Mix well and knead into a stiff dough using water. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the mashed green peas, cumin seeds, ginger, green chili, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt to taste. Set aside.
- Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. Roll each ball into a small disc, about 3 inches in diameter.
- Place a spoonful of the pea filling in the center of each disc. Bring the edges together and pinch to seal, then gently flatten the ball with your hands.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Carefully slide in the stuffed dough balls and fry until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the kachoris from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve the matar kachoris hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.
