Pembrokeshire Pasty
The Pembrokeshire Pasty is a traditional savory pastry hailing from the beautiful coastal region of Pembrokeshire, Wales. Filled with hearty ingredients, this hand-held meal is perfect for a picnic or a quick lunch on the go.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 carrot, diced
- 1/2 cup peas
- 1/2 lb cooked beef, diced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and butter. Use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add the cold water and mix until a dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the onion, potatoes, carrot, peas, and cooked beef. Season with salt and pepper.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll out each portion on a floured surface to form a circle.
- Place a portion of the filling on one half of each dough circle. Fold the other half over the filling to form a semi-circle. Crimp the edges to seal the pasties.
- Place the pasties on a baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes, or until golden brown.
