Peppered Mutton Curry, known as Morich Mangsho in Sylheti Cuisine, is a flavorful and spicy dish that is popular in the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. This dish is known for its rich and aromatic gravy, made with a blend of traditional spices and plenty of black pepper.

Peppered Mutton Curry (morich Mangsho)

Ingredients

  • 500g mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tsp black pepper, crushed
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 4-5 green chilies, slit
  • 1/4 cup mustard oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the mutton with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the chopped onions. Cook until golden brown.
  3. Add the marinated mutton and cook on medium heat until the oil separates.
  4. Add the tomato puree, black pepper, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook for another 10 minutes.
  5. Pour in 2 cups of water, cover the pan, and let the mutton simmer until tender.
  6. Add the slit green chilies and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
