Peppered Mutton Curry (morich Mangsho)
Peppered Mutton Curry, known as Morich Mangsho in Sylheti Cuisine, is a flavorful and spicy dish that is popular in the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. This dish is known for its rich and aromatic gravy, made with a blend of traditional spices and plenty of black pepper.
Ingredients
- 500g mutton, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 2 tsp black pepper, crushed
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 4-5 green chilies, slit
- 1/4 cup mustard oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the mutton with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the chopped onions. Cook until golden brown.
- Add the marinated mutton and cook on medium heat until the oil separates.
- Add the tomato puree, black pepper, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook for another 10 minutes.
- Pour in 2 cups of water, cover the pan, and let the mutton simmer until tender.
- Add the slit green chilies and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
