Persian Stuffed Grape Leaves (Dolmeh Barg-e-Mowz)
Dolmeh Barg-e-Mowz is a traditional Iranian dish made with stuffed grape leaves. It is a flavorful and aromatic dish that is perfect for special occasions or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 cup rice
- 1/2 cup yellow split peas
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 jar grape leaves, drained and rinsed
Instructions
- Wash the rice and split peas, then soak them in water for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix the soaked rice and split peas with onions, dill, parsley, mint, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, and turmeric.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down. Place a spoonful of the rice mixture in the center of the leaf.
- Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and rice mixture.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a pot, seam side down, and add enough water to cover them.
- Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 1 hour.
- Remove from heat and let it cool before serving.
