Pflaumenkuchen (german Plum Cake)
Pflaumenkuchen, also known as German Plum Cake, is a traditional dessert from Hessian cuisine. This delicious cake is made with a yeast dough base and topped with fresh plums, creating a perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors.
Ingredients
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 7g active dry yeast
- 250ml warm milk
- 80g sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 kg fresh plums, pitted and halved
- 50g sliced almonds
- 2 tbsp sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add the flour, sugar, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead the dough until smooth, then cover and let it rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Roll out the dough and transfer it to a greased baking sheet.
- Arrange the plum halves on top of the dough, then sprinkle with sliced almonds and sugar.
- Bake for 40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Let it cool before serving.
