Pierogi (pierogi Paradise)
Pierogi are a traditional Central European dish consisting of delicious dumplings filled with various savory or sweet fillings. They are a popular comfort food and can be enjoyed as a main course, side dish, or even as a dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup mashed potatoes
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, sour cream, and melted butter. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough until smooth. Roll out the dough and cut into circles using a cookie cutter or a glass.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, chopped onion, salt, and pepper. Place a spoonful of the filling onto each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pierogi in batches for about 5 minutes, or until they float to the surface. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain.
- Optional: Pan-fry the cooked pierogi in butter until golden brown.
