Pikegtaq (dried Fish Jerky)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh fish fillets
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cut the fish fillets into thin strips.
  2. In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, water, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper to create a marinade.
  3. Place the fish strips in the marinade, making sure they are fully coated. Let them marinate for 1-2 hours.
  4. Remove the fish strips from the marinade and pat them dry with paper towels.
  5. Place the fish strips on a wire rack and let them air-dry for 4-6 hours, or until they become dry and jerky-like.
  6. Once dried, store the pikegtaq in an airtight container for up to several months.
