Pikliz (haitian Style Spicy Pickled Vegetables)
Pikliz is a traditional Haitian condiment made with spicy pickled vegetables. It adds a burst of flavor to any dish and is a staple in Haitian cuisine.
Ingredients
- 1 cabbage, thinly sliced
- 2 carrots, julienned
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 4 Scotch bonnet peppers, thinly sliced
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the cabbage, carrots, onion, bell pepper, and Scotch bonnet peppers.
- In a small saucepan, heat the vinegar, lime juice, salt, and sugar over medium heat until the salt and sugar are dissolved.
- Pour the hot liquid over the vegetables and toss to combine.
- Transfer the pikliz to a jar and let it cool to room temperature.
- Once cooled, cover the jar and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving.
