Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 pound beef, cubed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 2 teaspoons pilau masala (or a mix of ground cumin, coriander, cardamom, and cloves)
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 4 cups beef or vegetable broth
- Salt to taste
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until soft and translucent.
- Add the beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the garlic, ginger, pilau masala, and turmeric, and cook for 2 minutes to toast the spices.
- Add the diced tomatoes and cook until they start to break down.
- Stir in the basmati rice and coat it with the mixture in the pot.
- Pour in the broth, season with salt, and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
- Fluff the pilau with a fork, then cover and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
