  • 2 stalks lemongrass, bruised
  • 3 kaffir lime leaves
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, sauté the shallots and garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add the fish, tomatoes, red chilies, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves. Cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Dissolve the tamarind paste in water and pour it into the pot.
  4. Season with turmeric, salt, and sugar. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. Serve hot with steamed rice.
