Ingredients
- 1 kg ikan patin (catfish), cleaned and cut into pieces
- 3 cups water
- 5 shallots, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced

- 3 red chilies, sliced
- 2 stalks lemongrass, bruised
- 3 kaffir lime leaves
- 2 tablespoons tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring the water to a boil.
- Add the shallots, garlic, tomatoes, red chilies, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add the tamarind paste, salt, and sugar. Stir well.
- Add the fish pieces and cook for 15-20 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
- Adjust the seasoning to taste.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
