Pineapple Chicha (chicha De Piña)
Pineapple Chicha, also known as Chicha de Piña, is a refreshing and traditional Venezuelan drink made with pineapple, rice, and spices. It's a perfect beverage for hot summer days or as a sweet treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 ripe pineapple, peeled and chopped
- 1 cup white rice
- 8 cups water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the chopped pineapple, rice, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, vanilla extract, and salt to the pot. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let the chicha cool to room temperature.
- Once cooled, strain the chicha through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on the solids to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids.
- Refrigerate the chicha until chilled, then serve over ice. Enjoy!
