Pithla (पिठला)
पिठला (Pithla) is a traditional Maharashtrian dish made with gram flour and spices. It is a quick and easy recipe that is perfect for a simple and comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 cups water
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix gram flour, turmeric powder, and salt. Gradually add water to make a smooth batter.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped green chilies and minced garlic. Sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped onions and cook until they turn translucent.
- Pour the gram flour batter into the pan and stir continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cook for 8-10 minutes on medium heat until the mixture thickens and the raw smell of gram flour disappears.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with bhakri or steamed rice.
