Pithla Bhakar (पिठला भाकर)
पिठला भाकर (Pithla Bhakar) is a traditional Maharashtrian dish that is simple, flavorful, and easy to prepare. It is a popular comfort food in rural Maharashtra and is often enjoyed with bhakri or rice.
Ingredients
- 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 5-6 curry leaves
- 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 cups water
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the chickpea flour, green chilies, onion, turmeric powder, and salt.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and minced garlic. Sauté until the garlic turns golden brown.
- Pour the chickpea flour mixture into the pan and stir continuously to avoid lumps.
- Add water gradually while stirring to make a smooth batter.
- Cook the mixture on medium heat for 8-10 minutes or until it thickens and the raw flavor of the chickpea flour disappears.
- Once the pithla is cooked, remove from heat and serve hot with bhakri or steamed rice.
