Ingredients

  • 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the chickpea flour, green chilies, onion, turmeric powder, and salt.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and minced garlic. Sauté until the garlic turns golden brown.
  3. Pour the chickpea flour mixture into the pan and stir continuously to avoid lumps.
  4. Add water gradually while stirring to make a smooth batter.
  5. Cook the mixture on medium heat for 8-10 minutes or until it thickens and the raw flavor of the chickpea flour disappears.
  6. Once the pithla is cooked, remove from heat and serve hot with bhakri or steamed rice.
