Placinta Cu Branza (savory Cheese Pie)
Placinta cu branza is a traditional Aromanian savory cheese pie that is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack. This delicious pie is made with a flaky pastry crust and a rich, creamy cheese filling.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 2 cups feta cheese, crumbled
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the cold water and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, combine the feta cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, sour cream, dill, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place the dough in the pie dish, trimming any excess dough from the edges.
- Pour the cheese filling into the prepared crust and spread it out evenly.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is set.
- Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
