Placinta Cu Carne (traditional Aromanian Meat Pie)
Placinta cu carne is a traditional Aromanian meat pie that is popular in the Balkans. It is a savory pie filled with a delicious mixture of seasoned meat and wrapped in a flaky pastry crust.
Ingredients
- 500g ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 500g prepared pastry dough
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Season the meat with paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Roll out half of the pastry dough and line a pie dish with it.
- Spread the cooked meat mixture over the pastry in the pie dish.
- Roll out the remaining pastry dough and place it over the meat filling. Seal the edges and trim off any excess dough.
- Make a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Bake the placinta cu carne in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
