Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 leeks, white and light green parts only, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Evenly distribute half of the sliced leeks over the potatoes.
  4. Sprinkle half of the grated Gruyère cheese on top of the leeks.
  5. Dot the layers with half of the butter, then pour half of the heavy cream over the top.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, leeks, cheese, butter, and cream.
  7. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Let the gratin rest for 10 minutes before serving.
