Plum Dumplings (quetschepflumm)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 12 plums, pitted and halved
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup vegan butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Gradually add the warm water and knead the dough until smooth. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
  2. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and flatten each piece into a small disc. Place a plum half in the center of each disc and sprinkle with sugar. Seal the dough around the plum, forming a smooth ball.
  3. In a large pot of boiling water, carefully drop the dumplings and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  4. In a separate pan, melt the vegan butter and toast the breadcrumbs until golden brown.
  5. Roll the cooked dumplings in the toasted breadcrumbs and serve warm.
