Plum Dumplings (Slivkové knedle)
Slivkové knedle (Plum Dumplings) are a traditional Slovak dish made with a potato dough and filled with juicy plums. These delicious dumplings are often served as a main course or as a dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and boiled
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- Pinch of salt
- 12 ripe plums, pitted
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 4 tbsp butter
- 4 tbsp powdered sugar
Instructions
- Grate the boiled potatoes and place them in a large bowl.
- Add the flour, egg, and salt to the bowl with the potatoes. Mix until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and flatten each piece into a small disc.
- Place a plum in the center of each disc and wrap the dough around it, forming a ball.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully drop the dumplings into the water. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the breadcrumbs. Toast the breadcrumbs until golden brown.
- Remove the dumplings from the water and roll them in the toasted breadcrumbs.
- Sprinkle the dumplings with powdered sugar before serving.
