Slivkové knedle (Plum Dumplings) are a traditional Slovak dish made with a potato dough and filled with juicy plums. These delicious dumplings are often served as a main course or as a dessert.

Plum Dumplings (Slivkové knedle)

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and boiled
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 12 ripe plums, pitted
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Grate the boiled potatoes and place them in a large bowl.
  2. Add the flour, egg, and salt to the bowl with the potatoes. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and flatten each piece into a small disc.
  4. Place a plum in the center of each disc and wrap the dough around it, forming a ball.
  5. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully drop the dumplings into the water. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  6. In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the breadcrumbs. Toast the breadcrumbs until golden brown.
  7. Remove the dumplings from the water and roll them in the toasted breadcrumbs.
  8. Sprinkle the dumplings with powdered sugar before serving.
